Hever Hotel is in the Kent village of Hever -- known for its picturesque Tudor properties. The hotel is a 5-minute drive from the double-moated childhood home of Anne Boleyn, Hever Castle, which was built in the 13th century. Rich with Tudor artwork and furniture, it also has gardens, a lake, a woodland walk and a maze to explore.

The hotel is on the edge of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is full of nature reserves and hiking trails. Chartwell House, a National Trust property once belonging to Winston Churchill, is around 10 minutes' drive from the hotel. Hever Castle Golf Club, which has hosted PGA EuroPro Tour events, is next to the property.

The hotel has a main bar, an upstairs piano bar and a games room with a pool table. Breakfast and dinner are served in the Stables Restaurant, which has a rustic feel with wooden beams and pillars. The hotel also has a gym, a sauna, a tennis court and a games room. Guests can borrow bikes, helmets and high-visibility jackets from the hotel without charge (subject to availability).

Our friends and us had a lovely two night stay at Hever Hotel.

Little niggles that didn't spoil our stay but put right would have enhanced it. 1 No suitcase trestle in room 39 2 Only one bedside lamp in room 39 3 No plug socket located near a mirror for hairdryer in room 3 4 Charred burgers not very pleasant to eat. One had to be returned as both burger and bun were very burnt.

The hotel has a problem with their power, we lost it twice on the first day.

Whilst the overall experience was fine, our room had a few challenges. The location was great, very close to Hever Castle which is well worth a visit, and the staff were very friendly. Our room did not have a window. The door had glass to let in a little light but could not be left open for fresh air as it led directly onto a walk way. There were no sockets near the table so the kettle had to be placed on the floor the other side of the room. There was only a lamp on one side of the bed, The shower head was fixed for someone who was seven foot tall and was not adjustable and there was no hair dryer! However, these were just minor annoyances which we put down to being a quirk of an old, independent hotel.

Staff at reception seemed more keen to talk to a voice on the phone whilst two people waited for service. Otherwise pleasant and helpful. Food good, room comfortable.

Service at reception was dreadful. It was clear that the girl on duty on arrival & later that day could not care less. I had to ask 3 times for a hairdryer and was given contradictory excuses, whereas next day it was no problem at all. Rooms very basic & bathroom poor. Our shower was badly designed and flooded the bathroom floor each time we took even a short shower. Restaurant menu quite boring and food adequate, but would not have wanted to pay any more for overall experience. Hotel lacking in atmosphere and character.

Travelzoo good deal but wouldn't want to pay full price for B & B. Room clean & big.

Food. Luke warm breakfast, triple cooked chips barley cooked once. Menu limited. Couple of starters nice but mains disappointing. Some staff seemed disinterest. One female receptionist helpful & one young male barman more Jolly. Shame as nice building in nice setting & good location for sightseeing

Service was basic on arrival and staff didn’t seem on the ball, restaurant staff were also casual, nice lady on checking out though. Room was a good size but coffee table was damaged and toilet seat kept swinging round, I informed them of this on departure as we were only there one night.
Other Comments
It would be useful to be made aware of the facilities available, as we asked about these on arrival but there was a lot of fumbling around and eventually handed a sheet of paper on the stately homes nearby, could we use the other facilities in golf club for instance as the spa wasn’t ready for our stay. We expected some information in the room but we had to ask for everything it wasn’t forthcoming.
