All was great except for a continuous banging all night in our room. They offered us complimentary breakfast because of this noise. That was nice, but I am not sure it compensates for losing a night’s sleep when you are looking forward to a relaxing time away.

It was lovely retuning to the Chateau Montebello amd in September as all our previous holidays there were at Christmas. Beautiful grounds and buildings. Staff fantastic! Beautiful weather. Awesome spa experience, and food is delicious. Disapointments were that told by staff when on day we arrived that outdoor pool would remain open until following weekend, however when we went to use it next day no staff and chairs all stacked which was dispointing as the weather was sunny and warm. Also there are outdoor heaters and tables which it would've been appreciated if the heaters had been on so that we could sit outside in the lovely fall weather during the evening Also renovations are underway. Not sure if the newly and painted walls both in the rooms and in the newly painted wings are a good fit with the soul of the Château. The grey carpet and cream coloured painted over beams do not truly represent the nature of the Chateau Montebello and the fact that it supposed to be a historic log building. The new ownership should perhaps reinvest and re- renovate to keep the character of the Chateau Montebello. I hope that when they redo the lobby, they keep the character of the Château with the rustic feel. Furniture only needs to be reupholstered. Modern furniture would do a real disservice, and many people may be turned off going back if they're too many changes to try to modernize it.

Lovely that they had a little cake waiting for my husband in our room and also provided one at dinner!

The grounds remain beautiful and the Spa experience was fantastic. Several of the staff that have been there for several years were also very professional and extremely friendly.
Other Comments
Chateau Montebello used to be an extraordinary place, a five-star resort. This is no longer the case. The rooms were bare...not even a bottle of water in the room or any little touch that would make you feel like you were in a five-star resort. The Chateau looked neglected and most staff looked like they were young kids who lacked training. We had dinner and paid $400. At that price, you would expect professional service but this was not the case. The table was bare, the waiter forgot to bring the bread basket, the filet mignon was undercooked, the rest of the food was fairly bland both in terms of taste and presentation and while the dinning room had only a few patrons, we had to wait a long time for service. The same happened the next day for breakfast. As it stands, the resort is more like a basic 3 stars. The Spa, however, lived up to its reputation and would give it five stars. I understand that the Chateau was sold to a different group of international investors and since then, the standards have been sub-par. Consequently, we would not go back and all of us felt that the price we paid did not deliver equal quality and service.
