Why We Love This Hotel

  • This 17th-century manor house is in a 268-acre estate
  • There's a heated indoor pool, a steam room and a gym
  • Canterbury, Dover and Folkestone are all less than 20 minutes' drive away; Whitstable is 30 minutes from the hotel
  • "The 18-hole golf course is one of the finest in Kent" -- Today's Golfer

Set on a 268-acre estate a 20-minute drive from Canterbury, Broome Park Hotel occupies a 17th-century stately home once owned by Lord Kitchener. The mansion house was built between 1635 and 1638, and was transformed into a country house hotel in the 1930s.

The private estate has an 18-hole, par-72 golf course designed by renowned golf architect Donald Steel. In the mansion house, you'll find the Kitchener Restaurant & Bar, which serves modern British dishes (many of the ingredients are sourced from producers in Kent) and daily afternoon tea. There's also a bar, a heated indoor pool, a sauna and a gym. Leisure facilities include squash and tennis courts, a croquet lawn and a snooker table.

Mansion Double Rooms have views over the landscaped gardens and the golf course, and are on the first or second floor (there is no lift). There is free Wi-Fi throughout.

The hotel is 10 miles from Canterbury and there's a regular bus service into the city centre from a stop at the end of the drive. This partially walled city features the ruins of a Norman castle and one of the oldest cathedrals in England. The cute coastal town of Whitstable is a 30-minute drive away, and you can reach Dover and Folkestone within 20 minutes.

Hotel was set in a lovely venue but is looking very tired and dated in places. Service in the restaurant was slow and there were long periods of waiting for meals to arrive.

A privilege to stay at such an historic house, the experience was like staying at a rich aunts! The boys played golf which was a stones throw from the hotel, fabulous value, very friendly staff, nothing too much trouble, lots of activities including spa, pool, tennis, badminton, table tennis etc. The most beautiful surroundings. We plan to bring the family back

A well maintained traditional hotel with helpful and friendly staff. A wonderful building, grounds and scenery. It was great to be accommodated in the main building, which has only 18 rooms.
Other Comments
Reception staff friendly, efficient and helpful. Other staff appeared to be working hard, but a feeling of not being focused ie the bar was constantly stacked with dirty glasses, which did not seem to be anyone's responsibility; dining room staff unsure of what they were doing at breakfast.

Food service was very good. I wanted to swim and there were no towels in reception so receptionist said he would take one down to the pool for me. This didn't happen so I had to walk through the hotel lobby in my swimsuit to get to my room for a towel after swimming! Not pleasant for me or the other guests! However the room was excellent although it was not our allocated room.
Other Comments
Beautiful gardens and grounds around the hotel with an excellent golf course.
