Across the street from the waterfront, this elegant, olde-worlde hotel, described by The Daily Telegraph as "a classical hotel in a building dating from 1912, with a palm-filled courtyard garden and pool on Croatia's Lapad Peninsula" occupies an ornate Victorian building with a colourful modern annex.
Although it's a 45-minute walk from the hotel into the old city to see popular attractions such asDubrovnik Cathedral, the Pile Gate and the ancient city walls, it is only a 10-minute bus ride from the hotel, and buses stopping directly outside. But there is also plenty to savour on Lapad peninsula. Opposite Gruz port, the peninsula is adorned with the oldest and most beautiful of the city’s outer walls, and features a range of attractive sandy, rocky and concrete beaches in or near the stunning natural Sumratin Bay (Uvala Lapad). There's also a long central boulevard lined with coffee bars and restaurants, and plentiful sports options such as tennis, kayaking, jet skiing, canoeing, beach volleyball and pigicin (a popular local beach game).
There are 163 polished rooms and suites, either in the old building or modern annex, with the ones in the older building being more spacious; those in the newer building are smaller, but most have balconies. Larger family accommodation includes interconnecting rooms, and there are two wheelchair-adapted rooms. There are also six self-contained apartments with additional living space. All rooms include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and mini bars, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Some rooms add balconies and/or sea views, while suites feature additional living areas. Room service is available.
A generous complimentary hot and cold buffet breakfast is served in the lobby. There's a sea-view restaurant serving international cuisine, a terrace, an outdoor swimming pool, a lobby bar with cocktails and regular evening entertainment, plus a lush Renaissance-style garden. A tennis court and various watersports are nearby. Laundry and dry-cleaning services are available.
