The Athens Gate Hotel is a 2015 Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence award-winning, eco-friendly 4-star hotel in a prestigious location in the historic heart of Athens. It is directly opposite the remains of the once-colossal Temple of the Olympian Zeus, which is in a park that also contains Hadrian's Arch.
It is also 200 yards from the new Acropolis Museum in the up-and-coming Makriyanni neighbourhood bordering Thission, the latter of which is named after the ancient Temple of Hephaestus. There are ample touristy restaurants and shops along the top of Makriyanni Street near the Acropolis subway station, as well as several quieter streets with restaurants serving authentic fare. Syntagma Square -- otherwise known as Constitution Square -- is the home of the Hellenic Parliament, and is where you can watch the hourly spectacle of the changing of the guard by the Monument of the Unknown Solider; it is a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The Athens Agora and the buzzing bars and restaurants of the Monastiraki neighbourhood are both within a 16-minute walk of the hotel.
There is a range of room sizes, including standard, double, triple and family/interconnecting rooms, as well as a top-floor suite. All of the front-facing rooms in the hotel include a view of the Temple of Olympian Zeus, and some have a small terrace. 6th- and 7th-floor rooms with Acropolis views are available on request, according to availability. All rooms come with free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, a mini bar, slippers and a safe. A generous, varied breakfast is included in the price, and you can either eat in the rooftop restaurant or in your room.
The hotel's panoramic rooftop bar/restaurant serves fine cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with breath-taking 360-degree views of the Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Temple of Zeus and the city. There is also a shared lounge/TV area and a bar in the reception area serving coffees, drinks and light snacks throughout the day. Additional facilities include meeting/banquet rooms, a concierge, and laundry, dry-cleaning, ironing and babysitting/childcare services, plus a small business centre offering internet, fax and photocopying facilities. Parking is available on site with a reservation, for 15€ per day.
