Overview

Dumbleton Hall Hotel is a Grade II-listed manor house set in 19 acres of private grounds bordered by woodland. The present building sits on the site of the original 16th-century house, and once hosted the novelist Elizabeth Gaskell and the poet John Betjeman, who is reputed to have written three poems here. We visited the property and loved the stunning views of the Vale of Evesham and the surrounding Cotswold countryside.

The ancient market town of Winchcombe, which has quaint shops, pubs and tea rooms, and is on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway, is 10 minutes' drive away. The ruins of 13th-century Hailes Abbey, where you can follow an audio tour or visit the museum, are within a 15-minute drive. You can also visit Tewkesbury -- a 20-minute drive away -- to see the medieval buildings and narrow alleyways that surround the Benedictine abbey.

Cheltenham, Stratford-upon-Avon and Batsford Arboretum, a 56-acre botanical garden with one of the largest collections of trees and shrubs in England, are around 30 minutes' drive away. Gloucester, with its 11th-century cathedral, is 35 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Dinner and Sunday lunch are served in The Cedar Tree Restaurant, which has an extensive wine list. Afternoon tea, coffee and bar snacks are available in The Olive Lounge, and drinks are served in The Library Bar and Lounge.

Bedrooms vary in size and character, but all have views of the gardens or the Vale of Evesham. Dogs are welcome, but not in the public rooms (fees apply; see policies for details).

The reception staff could be more welcoming on arrival, seemed more concerned with their computer screens than the guests

Very good hotel in lovely grounds. Good food but breakfast on second day was a bit chaotic - apparently some IT failure

Enjoyed sitting out in the garden with the jug of Sangria which was part of the deal. Enjoyed being able to walk around the grounds. Staff friendly. Given the a la carte menu. Varied choice of dishes for the inclusive 3 course meal. Some dishes incurred a supplementary charge if you wished to choose them but we didn't find this necessary.

We enjoyed the visit the hotel were excellent the venue is superbly located and the hotel and rooms were very clean. A few things would have improved the visit. Winter type duvet in summer is not good, no shaver socket in the bathroom and no cubicle shower, showers within the bath are not convenient for anyone with restricted leg movement! There were some minor details about the room, not a lot space at the foot of the bed, taps in the en-suite handbasin were the wrong way round opposite to those on the the bath. Only two 13a socket outlets in the room, and other things like the sloppy fitting of the towel rail. However we would go there again and perhaps seek an upgrade to a better room, certainly one with a cubicle shower.
