About the Hotel
Why We Love This Hotel
- Central location, close to Zurich’s financial district & old town
- Two restaurants -- one specialising in seafood, the other offering regional dishes
- Breakfast is included in the rate -- not to be sniffed at in pricey Zurich
- Rooms feature coffee machines & a free welcome drink
With its central location, the 4-star Hotel Gl?rnischhof recommends itself. Add comfortable beds and two decent dining choices and you’re looking at a great option for a city break or business stay.
The hotel is a short walk from both Zurich’s Old Town and its financial centre. Bahnhofstrasse (for high-end retail therapy) is less than 10 minutes away, as is the lake -- you can bathe there in the summer. Zurich’s museums -- such as the Kunsthaus for fine art, the Migros Museum for contemporary works and the Beyer for time-keeping (because this is Switzerland) -- are scattered around the city, but excellent transport links mean you’re never far from a little culture.
There are two dining options at the hotel. Le Poisson mostly specialises in fish and seafood (vegetarians should probably look elsewhere) -- expect dishes such as lobster bisque with bavaroise or salt-crusted whole sea bass. Restaurant Gl?rnischhof offers more informal dishes and local specialities. Breakfast is included in the rate, and guests have free access to the Luxor Fitness Center in the same building.
Rooms are comfortable and simply decorated -- this is no design hotel. All have free Wi-Fi, LCD TVs and coffee machines, and you’ll find fresh fruit, mineral water and a welcome drink on arrival. Upgrade to a Relax Room or a Junior Suite for more space, separate seating areas and a king-size bed, or (if you’re a hopeless romantic) consider the dubiously named LoveRoom package, complete with flowers, champagne and extra-late check out.
