My Story Hotel Ouro is a contemporary-designed hotel that occupies an 18th-century building on the fashionable Rua áurea, better known as Rua do Ouro (Gold Street) due to its history as the hub of Portugal's gold trade since the 15th century. Today the street t is still lined with jewellers and goldsmiths, and features the distinctive traditional Portuguese patterned-tile pavements.
The hotel sits on the corner of Rua do Ouro and Rua de S?o Nicolau in the fashionable, commercial area of Baixa. It is a 2-minute walk to Baixa/Chiado Metro and around a 5-minute walk to the River Tejo(Tagus). It's also a 5-minute walk to Rossio Square, which Lonely Planet describes as having a "24-hour buzz", and eight minutes’ walk to Pra?a da Figueira, which is lined with al fresco cafés, "ideal for sipping a bica (espresso) and admiring the castle on the hillside". As with its other My Story concept-hotels in Lisbon, the idea is for guests to integrate with their surrounds and acquire their own stories of the city’s local culture to add to the history of the hotel.
The hotel’s contemporary décor reflects the local history, with shades of gold used throughout its public areas. There's a small restaurant and bar that serves breakfast (including traditional Portuguese pastries), and specialises in steak and fish dishes for dinner, as well as offering tapas, drinks and a reasonable fixed-price menu.
The gold colour scheme runs through to the rooms, with lots of gold tints in the artworks and soft furnishings, balanced with cream-coloured furniture and walls. Due to its being an older building, the rooms can vary in size, with a handful quite small and some on the top floor having sloping ceilings. Some rooms have balconies looking out over Rua do Ouro and include views of the river. All areas and guestrooms have air conditioning, a mini bar, a smart television, a private bathroom, a safe and free Wi-Fi. Interconnecting rooms are also available.
