The Stafford London is an elegant hotel in quiet St James's, five minutes' walk from Piccadilly and within striking distance of the theatres in London's West End. The multi-award-winning property, spread across three Victorian townhouses, was named one of Travel + Leisure's world's best hotels and made the 2013 Condé Nast Traveler Gold List. The service is second to none -- discreet, personable, and super-efficient.
The smart Lyttleton restaurant (a firm Travelzoo favourite) serves modern British dishes, and the American Bar is a haven for evening cocktails, kitted out in green leather and crammed with memorabilia dating back to the 1930s (a dress code applies). Not to be missed is the 380-year-old wine cellar with its million-dollar selection of wines. There's also a mini gym, open 24 hours for on-site workouts.
The individually designed rooms and suites are spread across the three buildings. Each is equipped with a Nespresso coffee machine. The new suites, across the cobbled courtyard in the mews, are as sleek as an Art Deco apartment with a handy separate lounge.
Set in one of London's most exclusive neighborhoods, the hotel is also just a short walk from some of the capital's major attractions: a lovely amble through Green Park, just next door, will take you to The Mall, where you'll find The Institute of Contemporary Arts, and Buckingham Palace.
